Areas of Responsibility 

The Head of Collections Programmes has responsibility for a number of the Library’s change programmes in relation to our Collections including managing the relationship with the Qatar Foundation And Qatar National Library which has funded the Qatar Digital Library portal, which provides a bilingual resource that contains India Office Records related to the history of the Persian Gulf and Scientific Arabic Manuscripts of the Arabic-speaking world, giving researchers free and open access to previously un-digitised British Library Collection

He leads on the Library’s Heritage Made Digital portfolio to transform digital access to the Library’s renowned Collections of rare books, manuscripts, early newspapers, sound recordings and other heritage materials.  This includes leading on our Library Systems Transformation Programme to implement a suite of business systems that will enable the effective management of our Collections and underpin a range of services.

Areas of Expertise 

Richard is currently responsible for leading the programme of 40 staff, working to conserve, catalogue, digitise and make freely available the library’s rich collections online.  

Richard has worked at the Library since 2007, leading on a variety of major projects including academic research projects and digitisation partnerships with Google, Cengage, Europeanna,  and now the Qatar Foundation. Prior to joining the Library, Richard worked for Brunel University, lecturing for the Business School in Information Technology and Management, as well as co-ordinating a number of e-learning projects.
