
Venki Ramakrishnan

Dr Venkatraman “Venki” Ramakrishnan PRS was nominated by the British Museum for appointment to the British Library Board for four years from 15 June 2020.
Venki is a Nobel Prize-winning biologist whose many scientific contributions include his work on the atomic structure of the ribosome, chromatin structure and X-ray crystallography. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2012 for his work on ribosomal structure.
Dr Ramakrishnan is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences, Leopoldina and EMBO, as well as a Foreign Member of the Indian National Science Academy. He is a fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge and was elected in 2015 as President of the Royal Society for a five-year term. He received a knighthood in 2012.
