With AL Kennedy and Rosalind Porter. Chaired by Samira Ahmed

40 years ago, Granta magazine was relaunched to celebrate the most exciting literature and to rail against what was seen as a ‘crisis in publishing’'.

What was the crisis they saw? What role do literary magazines such as Granta play in shaping the literary landscape and the authors who make it there? And is publishing and literature still 'in crisis' today?

Featuring author AL Kennedy in conversation with Granta's Rosalind Porter. Chaired by Samira Ahmed.

This event marks the Library’s acquisition of the Granta archive, featuring letters and papers from well-known authors such as Margaret Atwood, J G Ballard, Angela Carter, Kazuo Ishiguro, Iris Murdoch, Ben Okri and Fay Weldon. The Granta magazine archive is a significant source for understanding the landscape of contemporary British writing and publishing.

The Archive of Granta magazine will be available to view in the British Library Reading Rooms by 2021. Find out how to become a Reader.
