Coronavirus – British Library to focus on digital content as public spaces close

17 March 2020

Because of the current coronavirus outbreak, and in line with the latest Government guidance, the British Library will tonight (17 March) be closing its physical, public-facing services – including Reading Rooms, events programme, shops and catering, and exhibitions – on both our London and Boston Spa sites for the time being.

The Library will focus its efforts on maintaining the best possible service to people online across the UK and the world, using the full range of our digital content and capabilities, including our digitised collections, curatorial expertise, learning resources, and remote access research services.

We will seek to build on this in the coming weeks and months as we adapt our operations and support our workforce through this unprecedented time.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and we look forward to welcoming visitors back to the Library’s public spaces as soon as we are able to.
