The Newspaper Moves Programme safeguards the future of our newspaper collection by moving it into archival-standard storage at Boston Spa

Published date:

Since 7 April 2014 the Newsroom at St Pancras has been the home for news collections.

Following the closure of the Newspaper Library at Colindale, print newspapers have been moved to the Newspaper Storage Building (NSB) at our Boston Spa site in West Yorkshire. The new building provides fully environmentally-controlled storage conditions for the entire collection with low oxygen to eliminate the risk of fire.

As well as securing the long-term future of the print collection, the Newspaper Programme will transform the way that researchers are able to access news content. The Library’s partnership with DC Thomson Family History to digitise 40 million newspaper pages over 10 years will make historic newspapers accessible to a wider audience than before.
