Freedom: artistic expression online

A female artist has photographed the daily lives of her two children. These are to be exhibited in a public gallery. The photographs will also be shown on the gallery’s website and on the artist’s own website. After the website has launched a member of the public complains because some of the pictures show the artist’s children naked. She views the exhibition in the gallery to be a safe and controlled space, but wants all online content removed. In this lesson, students will discuss issues of exhibiting art online, freedom of expression and censorship.
