Peace negotiations at the end of World War One

Lesson Rationale

In this activity, students will use primary source material to examine the difficulties of international relations and the expectations of peace from the perspective of the different countries involved.

Students will gain an insight into how peace was made at the end of World War One and will develop an understanding of how World War One laid the foundations for World War Two.

Key questions

  • What were the aims of different countries going in to the peace negotiations?
  • How easy was it to make peace from each country’s perspective?
  • How far did the Treaty of Versailles signal future peace?
