Colin Humphreys (1941-), materials scientist, currently directs research at the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy at the University of Cambridge, where he has spent much of his career. His early research was concerned with the interpretation of electron microscope images, an expertise that crosses a wide variety of areas of materials science, including high temperature alloys and semi-conductors. Outside hisscientific research, he has promoted materials science to wider audiences, at policy levels and through outreach work with schools. He has also written extensively on religion and science, interpreting Biblical events from a scientific perspective.
