Mandy Haberman is the inventor of the Anywayup Cup, a non-spill toddler cup that improves hand-to-mouth co-ordination and only releases liquid when sucked. After perfecting her design, Mandy visited the British Library’s British & IP Centre for intellectual property guidance and filed a patent.
When the Anywayup Cup went on sale, it was an instant success with half a million sales in its first year. However, after a large rival brand brought out a very similar product Mandy was forced to sue for patent infringement. Fortunately, as she had patent-protected her product successfully, Mandy won her case and the rival brand was forced to stop selling their product and pay her damages for profits lost. The AnywayupCup has continued to sell very well and dominates global markets for infant drinking cups. The cup even has its own place in the London’s prestigious Design Museum.
