The British Library Board has announced that Rebecca Lawrence has stepped down as Chief Executive. The Board extends its thanks to Rebecca for her contribution and wishes her every success in her future endeavours.
The Board has confirmed that Dr Jeremy Silver will cover the role of Interim Chief Executive for the time being, following Rebecca’s departure. Jeremy has been a British Library Board member since 2019, and was re-appointed for a second term in 2023.

Dr Jeremy Silver is a non-executive director and author, with extensive global experience in digital media, immersive technologies, music and AI/machine learning.
Between 2016-2024 he was CEO of Digital Catapult, the UK Government backed applied research and development lab and business accelerator. He is an Honorary Professor in Computer Science at UCL.
He has been a British Library Board member since 2019 and was re-appointed for a second term in 2023; he was Chair of the Board Digital Portfolio Committee. Silver also did his PhD research in the British Library, which was also his first employer in 1984.
