Support the Eccles Institute for the Americas and Oceania

We want to expand our reach through new projects, programmes and collaboration and welcome enquiries from anyone with an interest in supporting our work.

People networking at an event

The Eccles Institute at the British Library promotes knowledge of the Americas and Oceania through collections, fellowships, events, research and education.

We’re passionate about connecting people with the story of the region through the Library’s rich collections. We want to expand our reach through new projects, programmes and collaboration and welcome enquiries from anyone with an interest in supporting our work.

Our fundraising priorities are:

  • Collections Programme: Focuses on acquiring and preserving post-1850 Americas collections including contemporary academic texts, political pamphlets, zines, artists’ books, and region-specific forms. We aim to increase access and awareness of the region's story through the Library’s rich historic and contemporary collections.
  • Fellowships Programme: Since 1992, we have supported over 400 Fellows in exploring the Library’s vast collections, fostering global impact and inspiring new discoveries across diverse topics related to the Americas.
  • Congress to Campus Programme: Our flagship learning programme, running since 2003, features in-person conversations between former Members of Congress. It has reached over 25,000 young people and hosted more than 50 former Members of Congress.
  • Cultural Programme: Includes keynote lectures, discussion series, workshops, Library exhibitions and events at Hay Festival Global, contributing to the cultural conversation about the Americas.

Our goal is to continue to support more researchers, inspire students, writers, creatives, and thinkers, and enhance the conversation about the Americas and Oceania, especially in addressing urgent global issues. If you would like to support our work, we want to hear from you.
