The Green Library Hub is a National Lottery-funded programme to support people to live more sustainably and take climate action.
We’re working in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) and Camden Libraries to connect global climate challenges to local priorities in St Pancras, Somers Town and King’s Cross from energy efficiency and food resilience to healthier neighbourhoods and community wellbeing.

Our goal is to strengthen local resilience and create a toolkit that enables libraries across the UK to support their communities in taking climate action.
The Green Library Hub is a three-year pilot running from 2025–28, with activities taking place throughout the year. In Camden, workshops, training sessions and community events have been running since April 2026, alongside Green Libraries Week each October.
As part of the Green Library Hub Project, the Library is also offering grants to support innovative projects that demonstrate the vital role libraries can play in addressing climate change.
The Library’s Community Engagement team continues to inspire environmental action through the Green Libraries Community Grant Scheme, supporting innovative projects that bring people together around climate action, sustainability and the Library’s collections.
We’re delighted to celebrate the success of two recently completed projects. Local artist Sogand Bahram led creative workshops using recycled materials and paper-making techniques, encouraging participants to explore sustainability through hands-on artistic practice. Meanwhile, Calthorpe Community Garden delivered a vibrant programme of intergenerational workshops exploring food justice, environmental challenges and sustainable food habits, bringing communities together to share knowledge and experiences.
The programme continues this summer with Canal Tales: Walking, Imagining, Making, Performing, launching in July. Led by Chuntian Hu and Canal Dream CIC, this exciting series of participatory activities will take place across the British Library and along Regent’s Canal in King’s Cross and Camden. Participants are invited to discover the area’s waterways through creative, sustainable activities that connect local history, the environment and community storytelling.
Looking ahead to September, educator and biomaterials researcher Auda Sakho from Redress Laboratory will lead an inspiring project exploring the ecological origins of colour. Through practical workshops, participants will reconnect with natural materials while discovering sustainable alternatives to synthetic dyes and petrochemical inks.

Most Green Library Hub activities are free to attend.
