Mickela Hall-Ramsay, HR Sports Academy

Mickela Hall-Ramsay is the founder of HR Sports Academy, a community interest company she launched at 23 with a mission to inspire young people through sport. With a lifelong passion for athletics, she wanted to create a positive space where young people could build confidence, make friends and develop valuable life skills, particularly at a time when youth crime in her community was high.

As the organisation grew, Mickela quickly realised that running a business involved far more than she initially expected. Alongside the day-to-day delivery of programmes, she had to navigate legal responsibilities such as payroll, hiring staff, insurance and wider operational management, areas she had not previously been familiar with.

With support from the Business & IP Centre, Mickela received guidance on structuring her business and managing finances, helping her build a stronger foundation for growth. Today, HR Sports Academy continues to thrive and Mickela remains a strong advocate for accessing the right advice to help turn ideas into lasting impact.
