Paul Pringle – Solarglide, Newcastle

Paul used his local BIPC in Newcastle to tackle his business’s carbon footprint.

‘The thing I love about the support that we’ve received from our local BIPC is that it’s really accessible.‘

Paul Pringle

Solarglide Ltd, founded in 2008 by Managing Director Paul Pringle, is a UK-based manufacturer of blinds and window shades for the maritime industry, supplying customers all over the world. As the business continued to grow internationally, Paul reached out to Business & IP Centre North East through his local library to better understand the company’s carbon footprint and explore how sustainability could be brought to the forefront of its operations.

With guidance from the BIPC team, Paul was able to review the environmental impact of the business and identified practical steps to reduce it. As a result, Solarglide moved beyond recycled materials to introduce fully biodegradable packaging across its range, including biodegradable bubble wrap for all blinds, curtains and window products.

Paul described his favourite thing about his local BIPC: ‘The thing I love about the support that we’ve received from our local BIPC is that it’s really accessible. You can access it via the local libraries and now I feel a lot more confident that I know where we’re heading.’
