The Huth manuscript has 69 historiated initials containing images in pale colours and gold, of elegant figures with delicate features. It contains the prose version of Joseph of Arimathea and the Merlin, which is incomplete. This image from the Livre de Merlin shows the young Arthur on his knees drawing the sword, symbolising justice, from an anvil (this later became a stone), symbolising Christ, while being blessed by an archbishop, thereby portraying Arthur as the legitimate divine ruler and defender of the faith.
