Vortigern, a half-legendary 5th-century British ruler, is depicted in his burning castle. The miniature refers to the episode in which the sons of Constantine, Ambrosius and Uther, take revenge on Vortigern for his treason to their father. The scene below probably shows Amrosius, who was crowned king by the Britons, and his companions.
