Trench guards

Description

This is a lithograph depicting soldiers with gas masks, by Henry de Groux (1886-1930), a Belgian symbolist painter and sculptor. Images of the war in newspapers made a deep impression on de Groux. The things he saw and his own experiences urged him to create a series of drawings, etchings and lithographic prints about the atrocities of the conflict.
