Beaker depicting radical speaker Henry 'Orator' Hunt

Description

This earthenware beaker or cup is decorated with a portrait of the radical speaker Henry Hunt, and inscribed 'Hunt and Liberty'. It dates from 1819, the year of the Peterloo Massacre where Hunt led the rally speeches before thousands of peaceful protestors for parliamentary reform; Hunt was imprisoned for his involvement.
