Map of the Bay of Bengal from Ptolemy's Geography

Description

This map from the Harley manuscripts collection shows the Bay of Bengal from a manuscript of Ptolemy's Geography, has the sea is coloured yellow instead of blue. At the centre of the map is the Ganges delta, the Malay Peninsula is bottom right and among the places between them are Bassein and the Bassein River in Burma (‘besinga’, 'besingas fl'). At the foot are islands of cannibals (‘anthropophagorum’).
